As Figaro has developed, configuration data has been stored in various data files and data areas throughout the system. Some items have been user maintainable through specific programs whilst others have required access to the iSeries command line and use of system commands, limiting their maintenance to IT staff or even JHC personnel. The Figaro configuration management module provides a user friendly unified approach to maintaining all Figaro configuration. It provides a single repository for new configuration items as they are introduced and also provides access to existing configuration structures.

* Definition: Figaro System Value (FSV).
An item of Figaro configuration that controls the way that a particular instance of Figaro operates. An FSV is similar to the iSeries ‘System values’ but controls what happens in the particular Figaro environment rather than what happens to all environments on the iSeries. Previously configuration data that would be now be considered as FSVs were held in data areas such as SETDES, SETISA, CRESTMSIZE etc or data files such as DEFAULTS. More that two hundred such data areas now come under FSV control.
